Misinformation and ignorance of religion continue to create conflict in our increasingly diverse society. Our mission is to provide educational opportunities to increase awareness of the variety of religious belief and practice.
It is particularly important to educate young people in the basic history and beliefs of the major religions of humanity. The Charter for Compassion, adopted by the city of Seattle in 2010, calls on us to "ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures". Understanding the role of religion is essential for understanding our history, appreciating our cultural heritage, and building a workable society.
